Your first appointment will typically take between 1.5 and 3 hours, depending on the type of evaluation and the diagnostic tests required.
Please remember to bring the following to your appointment:
- Completed new patient paperwork
- Your insurance cards
- Copay for specialists, as indicated on your insurance card
- Any referral documentation from your primary care or referring physician
- A list of all medications and eye drops you are currently using
- Your current contact lenses or glasses for daily use
During your visit, your eyes will be dilated (eye drops will be used to widen your pupils). This dilation usually lasts 4-6 hours, so we advise bringing a driver with you. Your retina specialist will conduct a thorough evaluation and a detailed eye exam. Afterward, your diagnosis will be explained, and any questions you have will be addressed. Additional tests may also be ordered to assist in diagnosing and managing your retinal condition.
